According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he wants to make sure that his final year in office is productive.
"At least, I want to be able to show the people that I gave it my all from the beginning to the end," he continued.
At the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo said, "I think that the signs are becoming clearer; the rebounding of our economy is already going on." He was there to introduce the newly elected Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dogbe.
Inflation
The extremely high rate of inflation we had last year is naturally declining, according to President Akufo-Addo, who was speaking about the rate of inflation.
He said that, based on the 50% estimate for the year's conclusion, "we will be looking at an inflation rate of 27%."
In his speech, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the desire to reduce inflation to 15%, adding, "We love to bring it back to a single-digit figure that was a feature of my first term."
"From now through the end of this year, inflation in the nation will significantly decline.
A big crop is forthcoming.
The mechanisms in place would ensure that the food stays in Ghana because a lot of it is being farmed, particularly in the northern region of the nation, he said.
President Akufo-Addo went on to explain that previously, due to a very loose agreement, "we produce the food for others to come and take it away, from Burkina Faso to Nigeria and to Niger, but this year we are going to be much more vigilant."
The President further stated that every effort would be made to guarantee that food produced in the nation remained there, helping to lower the price of food.
Corruption
The presumption that every person elected to the office of president is a thief was refuted by President Akufo-Addo, who called it sad.
"Unfortunately, there is a presumption in our nation that those who enter politics do so with the intention of enriching themselves.
When it comes to attempting to make money, some of us would have been better suited in the private sector, he said.
"It is an assumption that we all have to work hard to try and dispel," he continued. The president said that a portion of the presumption encouraged scepticism about government institutions.
He said that the institutions that had been established, such as the police and the different anti-corruption organisations, worked for the good of the nation rather than the current administration.
Therefore, President Akufo-Addo emphasised the need for everyone to find methods to increase the public's trust in those institutions so that they realise that they are working for the state of Ghana.
"Governments come and go; the First Republic and Third Republic were examples. I've benefited from a just shift in governance. We have been doing this for at least 30 years, he said.
Prayers
President Akufo-Addo said, "We are going to count very much on you," while requesting prayers from Christians. He also pleaded for prayers that would help him and his administration take the appropriate actions for the people.
The President said that the Christian Council and other ecumenical organisations were well-known democratic organisations and added that he had no doubt that their leadership adhered fervently to term limits.
He praised the previous CCG chairman for his governance and wished the incoming chairman, Rt. Rev. Dr. Dogbe, well in his new position.
The president promised the new chairman that the government would give him its full support and expressed his confidence that he would carry out his responsibilities appropriately.
