Gospel artist Empress Gifty has recently shed light on a profound and often unspoken challenge that many gospel singers face: spiritual attacks prior to the release of new songs. In her view, these challenges are directly linked to the songs’ positive intentions and their potential to bring about significant change in people’s lives.
During her appearance on the "Ofie Kwanso" show, Empress Gifty articulated the gravity of these spiritual battles, emphasizing that every new song gospel musicians release is often accompanied by intense spiritual opposition. She explained, “Every new song we release, we get attacks (spiritual) before the song is out. If you ask other gospel musicians, they will tell you. The kind of attacks you will go through because the song is coming to impact lives and bring miracles to someone is incredible.”
She highlighted that the spiritual nature of their work makes them vulnerable to various challenges. If artists are not spiritually grounded, these attacks can severely affect their performance and creativity. Empress Gifty remarked, “If the attacks come, you will even forget your lyrics, I am telling you.” This statement underscores the mental and emotional toll that these spiritual battles can take on artists who are striving to share uplifting messages.
In a subsequent interview with Adom FM, she elaborated on how the impact of these spiritual challenges can lead to detrimental effects on artists' careers. Many gospel singers, she noted, might not be equipped to handle such pressures, which can cause them to lose focus during crucial moments, such as interviews or performances. Empress Gifty observed, “That’s why some artists, when they release a song, after three interviews, they stop. It’s not their willingness.”
This observation brings to light a critical point about the unseen struggles that artists face in their careers. The pressures and attacks they endure can lead to a sense of defeat, despite having powerful messages that deserve to be shared. Empress Gifty emphasized that it’s not uncommon for talented artists to feel overwhelmed by these spiritual challenges, leading them to withdraw from the public eye even when their music has the potential to inspire and uplift others.
