President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a pivotal address to the nation ahead of Ghana’s December 7, 2024, General Elections. His speech highlighted the importance of unity, peace, and the democratic responsibility of every citizen during this critical period in the country’s history.

The President began by acknowledging Ghana’s strong democratic tradition, emphasizing the significance of maintaining peace and stability during elections. He urged all Ghanaians to approach the polls with a sense of patriotism and responsibility, reminding the nation that democracy thrives on the collective participation of its citizens.

Our democracy has been a beacon of hope for Africa, and it is up to us to uphold this legacy by conducting ourselves with dignity and respect throughout the electoral process,” he stated. Akufo-Addo encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers, stressing that their voices and choices are the bedrock of Ghana’s progress.

In his address, the President called on political parties, candidates, and supporters to avoid inflammatory language and actions that could incite violence. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election, noting that State Security Agencies had been deployed to maintain law and order across the country.

The peace and stability of our nation should never be compromised for political gain. Let us show the world that Ghana remains a shining example of democracy in action, he emphasized.

Akufo-Addo also took the opportunity to highlight the role of the Electoral Commission in managing the election process. He expressed confidence in their preparedness and impartiality, urging citizens to trust the system and report any concerns through appropriate channels.

Addressing the youth, the President encouraged them to eschew violence and resist being used as tools for political unrest. He underscored the need for unity, reminding Ghanaians that regardless of the election’s outcome, they remain one people with a shared destiny.

Akufo-Addo concluded his address with a call for prayer and reflection, asking Ghanaians to seek divine guidance for a peaceful and successful election. Let us stand together as one nation under God, committed to building a prosperous and united Ghana, he said.

The address served as a timely reminder of the power of democracy and the collective responsibility of all citizens to protect Ghana’s hard-earned peace and stability.
