In a historic win, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Adentan Constituency, has made political history by becoming the first Member of Parliament (MP) to retain the seat after its creation in 2004. Ramadan's victory, announced on December 8, 2024, saw him garner 56,303 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rival, Akosua Asaa Manu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 35,143 votes.

Ramadan’s win is significant, as it breaks a long-standing political trend in the constituency where no MP had managed to secure a second term. In 2020, Ramadan first won the seat by defeating the incumbent NPP MP, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, with a margin of 63,436 to 49,255 votes. Although Ramadan’s vote count was slightly lower this year, he managed to hold on to his seat, making him a key figure in Adentan's political landscape.

This victory is also historic because it marks the NDC's third attempt at securing the Adentan Constituency, after earlier unsuccessful bids in 2016. Prior to Ramadan, the constituency had seen four MPs, none of whom were able to retain their seats, either losing in elections or being ousted in party primaries.

In a brief but heartfelt speech following the declaration of the results, Ramadan expressed his gratitude to his supporters and the people of Adentan. "This is historic in all ways, and I can only thank everyone who made it possible," he said. He went on to thank the NDC supporters for their hard work, which helped secure the victory, and pledged to continue working hard for the development of the constituency.

Ramadan's triumph in Adentan has been widely celebrated within the NDC, with supporters praising his dedication and leadership. His win has also been seen as a testament to the growing influence of the NDC in the region, signaling a shift in political fortunes.

This victory, which comes amidst a tense political climate, will surely be a topic of discussion in the coming days as both parties prepare for the official results declaration by the Electoral Commission. As political temperatures rise, Ramadan’s success is being hailed as a major milestone in Ghana’s electoral history.
