Robbers Loot GH¢400,000 in Ngleshie Amanfro Forex Bureau Heist

In a brazen act of criminality, armed robbers made away with an estimated GH¢400,000 in a daring raid on a forex bureau in Ngleshie Amanfro, near Kasoa. The heist, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the state of security in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers, numbering about six, stormed the forex bureau around 8:30 a.m. when business operations had just begun. Dressed in masks and wielding sophisticated weapons, the criminals held staff and customers at gunpoint, demanding cash and valuables.

How the Incident Unfolded

The manager of the forex bureau, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing experience. "They came in a black SUV and entered the premises as though they were regular customers. Within seconds, they pulled out guns and ordered everyone to lie face down," he narrated.

The robbers reportedly forced the staff to open the vault, where they ransacked the cash reserves. It is estimated that GH¢400,000 in various currencies was stolen. Witnesses added that the robbers acted swiftly, spending less than 15 minutes before fleeing the scene.

Security Lapses

The attack has raised questions about the level of security at forex bureaus in the area. It was revealed that the bureau did not have armed security personnel on duty at the time of the incident. Furthermore, while CCTV cameras were installed, it remains unclear if they captured clear footage of the assailants, as they were reportedly masked.

A local resident, Madam Adwoa Aboagyewaa, expressed her concerns. "This is not the first time we’re hearing of such robberies. These forex bureaus need to improve their security. It’s frightening to know that even during the day, such crimes can happen," she lamented.

Police Response

The Ghana Police Service has since launched an investigation into the incident. Speaking to journalists, the Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge, assured the public of swift action.

"We are working tirelessly to apprehend the culprits. Our crime scene investigators have collected evidence, including CCTV footage, and we urge anyone with information to come forward," she stated.

She further advised businesses, especially those handling large sums of money, to prioritize security measures and collaborate with the police to ensure their safety.

Community Reaction

The robbery has left residents and business owners in Ngleshie Amanfro shaken. Many have called for increased police patrols and the installation of surveillance systems in public spaces.

A forex trader in the area, Mr. Peter Asante, revealed his fears of being the next target. "If something isn't done, these criminals will continue to terrorize us. We need the government and police to step up security in our community," he said.

Conclusion

As investigations continue, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing sophistication of criminal activities in urban areas. While authorities work to bring the perpetrators to justice, businesses are urged to take proactive measures to safeguard their operations against such threats.

The Ngleshie Amanfro robbery underscores the urgent need for improved security infrastructure to protect businesses and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
