Lorestan Province, Iran – A tragic road accident claimed the lives of seven soldiers in Iran’s western Lorestan province on Friday, leaving the nation in mourning. The fatal crash occurred on a winding stretch of road near Khorramabad, the provincial capital, at approximately 9:30 PM local time.
According to local authorities, the military transport vehicle carrying the soldiers veered off the road and plunged into a ravine. Preliminary investigations suggest that poor visibility, slippery road conditions caused by recent heavy rains, and possible brake failure may have contributed to the accident.
Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Despite their efforts, all seven soldiers onboard were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Khorramabad’s Central Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, the Iranian Armed Forces expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers. “We have lost seven brave men in an unfortunate incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones,” the statement read.
Lorestan Governor Abdolreza Fazeli also extended his sympathies, promising a thorough investigation into the incident. “We will work with transportation and military authorities to determine the exact cause of this tragedy and implement measures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” he said.
Residents of Khorramabad and nearby towns gathered to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers. Vigils were held, and the streets were lined with mourners carrying candles and flowers. Many locals described the soldiers as dedicated individuals who were committed to serving their country.
“They were young and full of life. This is a loss not just for their families but for the entire nation,” said one mourner.
The crash has reignited discussions about road safety and vehicle maintenance in Iran, especially in mountainous regions like Lorestan, where treacherous roads and unpredictable weather conditions pose significant risks. Analysts have called for better road infrastructure and stricter safety protocols for military transport vehicles.
The tragic loss of seven soldiers in Lorestan serves as a somber reminder of the need for improved safety measures on Iran’s roads. As the country mourns, authorities must address these pressing concerns to prevent future tragedies.
Funeral arrangements for the fallen soldiers are currently underway, with military honors expected to be a part of the ceremonies. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
