**NPP Spent 2024 Campaign Spewing Invectives and Propaganda — Joyce Bawah**

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she describes as a campaign strategy focused on invectives, misinformation, and propaganda ahead of the 2024 general elections. Mogtari, who serves as a special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, expressed her concerns about the NPP's tactics during a media interaction, asserting that the ruling party has failed to engage in substantive discourse on issues affecting Ghanaians.

### **Propaganda over Policy Discussions**

According to Mogtari, the NPP's campaign has been characterized by personal attacks and deliberate distortion of facts rather than addressing critical national issues such as the struggling economy, high cost of living, unemployment, and corruption. She accused the ruling party of focusing on tarnishing the image of the NDC and its flagbearer, John Mahama, instead of presenting a clear vision for the country's future.

“The NPP’s campaign has been a parade of insults and baseless accusations,” Mogtari said. “They have chosen to focus on propaganda and character assassination instead of discussing their track record or presenting solutions to the challenges facing Ghanaians. This is a disservice to the people who deserve an honest and issue-based campaign.”

She argued that the NPP’s approach demonstrates their inability to account for their stewardship over the past eight years, particularly in managing the economy, which she described as being in a “precarious state.”

### **Economic Mismanagement**

Mogtari highlighted the NPP’s economic policies as one of their biggest failures, emphasizing that the party had plunged Ghana into unprecedented levels of debt and economic hardship. She cited rising inflation, a depreciating cedi, and skyrocketing prices of goods and services as evidence of poor governance under the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

“Instead of owning up to their failures and outlining a roadmap to recovery, the NPP has resorted to blame-shifting and propaganda,” she stated. “They continue to spread falsehoods about the NDC and make promises they have no intention of fulfilling, all in a desperate attempt to hold on to power.”

Mogtari added that the government’s reliance on external borrowing and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout program is a testament to their mismanagement of the economy. She called on Ghanaians to reject the NPP’s narrative and hold them accountable for their actions.

### **Attacks on John Mahama**

The NDC stalwart also condemned what she described as a coordinated effort by the NPP to undermine the credibility of John Mahama. She said the ruling party has consistently used false narratives and divisive rhetoric to distract from its own failures.

“John Mahama has been the target of relentless attacks from the NPP because they know he represents hope and a better future for Ghanaians,” Mogtari remarked. “Their fear of his proven leadership and vision for the country has driven them to engage in baseless accusations and smear campaigns.”

She urged the NPP to focus on their achievements and policies rather than engaging in what she termed “destructive politics.”

### **The Role of Social Media and Media Outlets**

Mogtari further criticized the use of social media and certain media outlets to amplify the NPP’s propaganda. She alleged that some journalists and influencers have been co-opted by the ruling party to spread misinformation and attack the opposition.

“The media plays a critical role in shaping public opinion, and it’s unfortunate that some outlets have chosen to align themselves with the NPP’s agenda of misinformation,” she said. “We must demand fairness and objectivity from our media institutions to ensure that voters are well-informed about the choices before them.”

She encouraged Ghanaians to seek accurate information and engage in critical thinking as they prepare to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.

### **NDC’s Issue-Based Campaign**

In contrast to the NPP’s approach, Mogtari emphasized that the NDC is committed to running an issue-based campaign focused on addressing the real needs of Ghanaians. She outlined key areas of focus for the party, including economic recovery, job creation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

“Our campaign is about offering solutions, restoring hope, and building a better future for all Ghanaians,” she stated. “We believe in engaging with the people, listening to their concerns, and presenting a clear vision for the country.”

Mogtari expressed confidence in the NDC’s ability to win the 2024 elections, citing widespread dissatisfaction with the NPP’s governance.

### **Call to Action**

Joyce Bawah Mogtari called on Ghanaians to reject the politics of insults and propaganda and demand accountability from their leaders. She urged voters to carefully evaluate the track records and promises of all political parties and make informed decisions at the polls.

“This election is about the future of Ghana, and we must not allow ourselves to be distracted by empty rhetoric and baseless accusations,” Mogtari concluded. “The NDC is ready to provide the leadership and solutions that Ghanaians need to overcome the challenges we face and build a prosperous nation.”

### **Conclusion**

As the 2024 general elections approach, the political atmosphere in Ghana remains charged with competing narratives and strategies. While the NPP faces criticism for relying on propaganda and personal attacks, the NDC continues to position itself as the party of solutions and hope. The coming months will reveal how these contrasting approaches resonate with voters, ultimately shaping the future direction of the country.
