Bernard Tekpetey Expresses Disappointment Over Black Stars Snub Despite Stellar Performances
Bernard Tekpetey, the Ludogorets forward, has voiced his frustration over being repeatedly overlooked for a spot in the Black Stars, Ghana's national football team, despite his consistent and outstanding performances. For the past four seasons, Tekpetey has been a key player for Ludogorets, excelling in the Bulgarian top division with impressive goal-scoring and playmaking records. However, despite his remarkable form, he has yet to receive a call-up to the national team. His last appearance for the Black Stars was in 2017 during the Africa Cup of Nations, and since then, he has earned just two caps, leaving him feeling disheartened and ignored by national selectors.
In an emotional interview with Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Bernard Tekpetey opened up about the personal toll of being consistently excluded from the Black Stars. "It hurts sometimes because, as a player, you know you are playing your best at the highest level," he said. Despite his frustration, Tekpetey emphasized that he respects the coach's decision, acknowledging that the coach must select players who best suit his tactical plans. Still, the forward admitted that it is difficult to watch other players get called up when he believes his own form and achievements are comparable or even superior. His candid remarks reflect the deep disappointment he feels due to his prolonged absence from the national team.
Currently recovering from an injury sustained during a Champions League qualifier against Qarabag, Tekpetey has been in excellent form, with 15 goals and 9 assists last season for Ludogorets. These statistics demonstrate his significant contribution to his club, further highlighting the disparity between his club success and his national team exclusion. Despite the ongoing disappointment of not being called up to the Black Stars, Bernard Tekpetey remains focused on his club career. He continues to work hard to maintain his form and hopes that his continued success will eventually lead to the recognition he believes he deserves. While his dreams of representing Ghana at a higher level remain unfulfilled, Tekpetey’s commitment to his craft and determination to succeed at the highest levels of club football are unwavering.
