They Have Been Eyeing The Land Since-Victim Accuse NDC Of Setting Kantamanto On Fire
A devastating fire at the Kantamanto market in the Greater Accra region has plunged traders and shop owners into shock and despair. The inferno, which tore through parts of the bustling market, has left widespread destruction in its wake, accompanied by a mix of grief, outrage, and accusations. Victims of the fire have made serious claims, alleging that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may have been behind the incident.
One trader accused the NDC of harboring intentions to take over the prime land where the market is situated. According to this individual, the party had previously expressed a desire to claim the land if it regained political power. The victim speculated that the NDC viewed the market as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and sought to undermine it. “This market supports the NPP, and they want to take it from us. That’s why they deliberately caused this fire,” the trader alleged.
Another victim raised alarming concerns about the response to the fire, claiming that the first fire ambulance to arrive worsened the situation. The individual alleged that the water tanker, intended to douse the flames, instead sprayed petrol, intensifying the blaze. “In the areas where the tanker sprayed, the fire burned even more fiercely. That’s when we realized it wasn’t water but petrol,” the trader recounted.
These claims have stirred significant unrest among traders and residents, many of whom are demanding a comprehensive investigation into the fire’s origin and the allegations made. Calls for transparency have grown louder as frustration mounts over the perceived lack of answers.
The Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire but has yet to address the allegations of arson or the claims regarding the fire truck’s response. Meanwhile, the NDC has remained silent, offering no comments to counter the accusations.
As investigations continue, traders and shop owners affected by the blaze are left grappling with the aftermath of the disaster. Many are appealing for support to rebuild their businesses, which serve as their primary source of livelihood. For now, the victims await the results of the investigation, hoping for justice and clarity in the wake of this tragic event.
