The final vote count in the Okaikwei Central constituency has confirmed Patrick Yaw Boamah as the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP), after a lengthy legal process and disputes over the initial results. Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured a total of 21,099 votes, narrowly defeating Baba Sadiq, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, who garnered 19,368 votes. This resulted in a victory margin of 1,731 votes. The Electoral Commission (EC) announced the final results after a directive from the High Court that required the re-collation of results from 31 polling stations that had been omitted in the original count. The legal action and re-collation process brought clarity and resolution to the election dispute that had persisted since election day.

Initially, Baba Sadiq was declared the winner on election day, but this led to disputes from both the NPP and NDC, each claiming victory. The tension between the parties prompted the NPP to seek legal redress. The High Court intervened and instructed the Electoral Commission to re-collate the results from the 31 polling stations that had not been included in the original tally. These polling stations had not been factored into the initial count, which contributed to the dispute over the results. The final collation confirmed Boamah’s victory, ensuring that the NPP maintained control over the Okaikwei Central constituency. This marked the conclusion of a legal battle that had raised questions about the integrity of the initial vote count.

For Baba Sadiq, the final collation of results was a disappointment, as it marked the end of his first attempt to secure a parliamentary seat. Despite his earlier proclamation of victory, the re-collated results revealed that Boamah had garnered more votes, solidifying his position as the winner. This election saga highlights the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral process. While the legal disputes were resolved, they also underscored the complexity of ensuring that all votes are accounted for in the final tally. With the election controversy now behind them, attention shifts to Boamah’s upcoming term in Parliament, where he will be expected to fulfill his duties and contribute to the development of the Okaikwei Central constituency. The NPP’s win in this constituency adds to their growing influence in Ghana’s political landscape, while Baba Sadiq’s loss marks a setback for the NDC in the area.
