CAF ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN CHAN PRIZE MONEY

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a major announcement regarding the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024. The prize money for the winner of the tournament has been increased by a whopping 75% to $3.5 million. Additionally, the total prize money for the tournament has been increased by 32% to $10.4 million.


This significant increase in prize money is a testament to CAF's commitment to investing in African football and making it more appealing and attractive to fans, sponsors, and partners. According to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, "The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players. It will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions."

The CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 is scheduled to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025. A total of 17 countries have already qualified for the tournament, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, and Nigeria. Two additional countries will join the tournament after qualifying from the remaining matches.


The increase in prize money is expected to raise the stakes and competitiveness of the tournament. It will also provide a significant incentive for the participating teams to perform at their best. With the CHAN being a key competition for African football, this increase in prize money is a major boost for the sport on the continent.
