Nungua Addogono Residents Cry Out for Enhanced Security Amid Rising Crime Wave
The residents of Nungua Addogono, a suburb of Accra, Ghana, are living in fear as a surge in robberies has left them feeling vulnerable and unprotected. The community is calling on the authorities to increase police presence in the area to combat the rising crime wave.
According to eyewitnesses, the robberies have become more frequent and brazen, with thieves targeting homes, shops, and even pedestrians. The residents are worried that the lack of adequate security measures is emboldening the criminals, who seem to be operating with impunity.
"We are living in fear," said Mrs. Ama Owusu, a resident of Nungua Addogono. "The robberies are happening every day, and we don't feel safe anymore. We need more police presence in our community to protect us and our properties."
The residents have reported the incidents to the police, but they claim that the response has been slow and inadequate. They are calling on the authorities to deploy more police personnel to the area and to establish a permanent police post to deter the criminals.
"We need a permanent police post in our community," said Mr. Kofi Mensah, a resident of Nungua Addogono. "The police should also increase their patrols in the area, especially at night when the robberies are more frequent. We can't continue to live in fear like this."
The residents have also expressed concern about the lack of streetlights in the area, which they believe is contributing to the rise in crime. They are calling on the authorities to install more streetlights and to repair the existing ones to improve visibility and deter the criminals.
"The lack of streetlights is making it easy for the thieves to operate," said Mrs. Akua Danso, a resident of Nungua Addogono. "We need more streetlights to illuminate our streets and to make it difficult for the criminals to hide. We also need the police to be more proactive in their patrols and to respond quickly to our calls."
The Ghana Police Service has acknowledged the concerns of the residents and has promised to increase police presence in the area. The police have also assured the residents that they will work with the community to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the robberies.
"We take the concerns of the residents seriously, and we will do everything possible to address them," said the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Afful Boakye-Yiadom. "We will increase our patrols in the area and work with the community to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the robberies. We will also work with the local authorities to improve the lighting in the area and to address any other concerns that the residents may have."
The residents of Nungua Addogono are hopeful that the police will follow through on their promises and provide them with the security they need to feel safe in their community. They are also calling on their fellow residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
"We need to work together to make our community safe," said Mr. Mensah. "We need to report any suspicious activity to the police and to support each other in our efforts to combat crime. We can't do it alone, but together, we can make a difference."
