Ghanaian Journalist Kofi Adoma Nwanwani Shot in the Face During Dormaa Festival

Renowned Ghanaian journalist and media personality, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, sustained severe injuries after being shot in the face during a traditional festival in Dormaa, Bono Region. The incident occurred while Adoma was covering the event, which involved the customary firing of musketry.

Incident Details

According to his wife, Miracle Adoma, also known as Nana Abena Etruba, the shooting was not accidental. She clarified that the individual responsible did not fire into the air, as is customary, but instead aimed directly at her husband. This action resulted in a direct shot to Adoma's face, causing immediate and severe damage to his eyes.

Medical Response and Treatment

Following the incident, Kofi Adoma was promptly transported to a local hospital in Dormaa for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to Berekum Hospital for further evaluation. Recognizing the critical nature of his condition, medical professionals recommended specialized care abroad. Consequently, Adoma was flown to Dubai, where he is currently receiving advanced medical treatment in an effort to restore his vision.

Public and Media Reaction

The incident has elicited widespread concern and support from the media community and the general public. Fellow journalist Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, shared the news on social media, urging for prayers and expressing her hopes for Adoma's full recovery. She stated, "Yesu, Kofi, I’m praying for your full recovery and healing."

Wife's Statement and Clarification

Miracle Adoma has been actively addressing the situation, providing updates on her husband's condition and clarifying misconceptions. She emphasized that the injury was not due to gunpowder residue, as some reports suggested, but was a direct result of being shot in the face. She also expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from the Dormaa traditional authorities, noting that no one from Dormaa, including the Dormaahene, had reached out to inquire about her husband's well-being.

Call for Safety Measures

This unfortunate event has sparked discussions about the safety protocols during traditional ceremonies involving firearms. Many are calling for stricter regulations and oversight to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring the safety of both participants and attendees.

Conclusion

As Kofi Adoma Nwanwani continues to receive medical care in Dubai, the public remains hopeful for his swift and full recovery. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the potential dangers associated with traditional practices involving firearms, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
