TRUMP ‘NOT 100% SURE’ HE’S BARRED FROM THIRD TERM

Donald Trump once again teased the idea of serving a third term, suggesting he wasn't entirely sure whether the Constitution bars him from doing so. The Constitution limits U.S. presidents to two terms, but Trump has often hinted at the possibility of running again, frequently with a lighthearted tone that still generates attention.

Speaking to a group of Congressional Republicans in Miami, Trump remarked, “I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100 per cent sure because I don’t know… I think I’m not allowed to run again.” He then turned to House Republican Leader Mike Johnson and jokingly asked, “I’m not sure, am I allowed to run again? Mike? I better not get you involved in that argument,” prompting laughter from the audience.

Trump’s comments came just a week after he was inaugurated for his second non-consecutive term in the White House, making him the only president in U.S. history to achieve such a feat. Under the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951 in part to prevent another president like Franklin D. Roosevelt from serving multiple terms, no one can serve more than two terms as president.

Despite the clear limits, a Republican representative in the House recently introduced a far-fetched proposal to amend the Constitution to let Trump run again. Trump has previously joked about extending his time in office. At a rally in Nevada, he said, “It will be the greatest honour of my life to serve not once, but twice—or three times or four times,” drawing laughter and cheers. He added, “Headlines for the fake news,” a familiar jab at the media.

Back in November, shortly after his election win, Trump told House Republicans, “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, ‘He’s good, we got to figure something else.’” And in July, during a speech to conservative Christians, he said, “Christians, get out and vote. Just this time… Four more years, it’ll be fixed, it’ll be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore.”
