You must prove your claims or face arrest – Sammy Gyamfi to Ntim Fordjour on joy News.

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, insisting that he must substantiate his recent allegations or face legal consequences.

The controversy arose after Rev. Ntim Fordjour alleged that two aircraft, which departed Ghana for Gran Canaria, were involved in drug trafficking and money laundering activities. These claims have been met with strong criticism from government officials and political figures. Speaking on JoyNews' 'Newsfile' program, Sammy Gyamfi labeled the allegations as baseless and irresponsible, emphasizing that such serious accusations against a sitting government should not go unpunished if found to be false.

Gyamfi asserted that in other jurisdictions, making unfounded claims of this nature would lead to significant legal repercussions. He stressed that if Rev. Ntim Fordjour refuses to honor an invitation from National Security to provide evidence supporting his allegations, he should be arrested and compelled to substantiate his claims. Gyamfi stated, "If he doesn't honor the invitation [by National Security] to him and he thinks that he can hide behind his parliamentary privileges, he lies bad. Because he will be arrested. Some of us will insist that he is arrested and you must substantiate that."

In response, Rev. Ntim Fordjour challenged Gyamfi's remarks, daring him to initiate the arrest. He retorted, "Sammy, I dare you to call them to come and arrest me right here on the show."

The allegations have sparked a broader debate on the handling of sensitive information by public officials. Security analyst Dr. Kwesi Aning expressed concern over the manner in which such information is disseminated, urging caution to prevent unnecessary panic and misinformation.

Furthermore, the situation has led to a public exchange between Rev. Ntim Fordjour and Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications. The two engaged in a heated debate on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with Kwakye Ofosu accusing Rev. Ntim Fordjour of spreading misinformation and Rev. Ntim Fordjour countering by accusing the minister of attempting to shield alleged drug cartels.

As the controversy unfolds, calls for accountability and evidence continue to mount, highlighting the need for responsible communication by public officials, especially concerning matters of national security.
