GHANA, JAPAN SIGN AGREEMENT TO FUND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration inked a $200 million grant agreement with the Japanese government yesterday[May 31, 2022] to develop a Japanese-funded scholarship program for government personnel.

 

This year, 13 officials will be supported to study for master's and doctoral degrees in Japan as part of the yearly program.

 

 

 

The Japanese government is funding the program through the Japan International Cooperation Agency's 'Project for human resource development scholarship (JDS),' which was launched in 2012. (JICA).

Its goal is to provide young government officials with the chance to further their education in Japan in order to improve their abilities to actively participate in the execution of social and economic development programs.

 

Those who pass the selection interview should be able to travel to Japan in August.

 

 

 

Gratitude

 

Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration who signed on behalf of the country, thanked the Japanese government and people for their assistance, stating, "Human resource development provides value and develops employee abilities needed to execute jobs better."

He told the Japanese government that recipients would be carefully chosen in order to strengthen their potential to contribute to the country's rapid growth.

 

Investment

 

 

 

Mochizuki Hisanobu, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, who signed on behalf of his nation, said that investing in human resources was at the heart of his country's success.

 

 

 

"We want to share this knowledge with our friends in Ghana, who are dealing with a variety of development issues." The determination to develop human resources is at the heart of the JDS program.

"Since 2012, Japan has constantly provided extremely qualified young Ghanaian government workers opportunity to pursue graduate courses in their different sectors of employment," he added.

 

Mr Mochizuki stated that recipients will be taking critical courses at some of Japan's premier institutions, which he claimed had been carefully chosen by a committee of Ghanaian and Japanese authorities.

 

 

 

"Let me say that providing help to enhance lives is our top goal in our engagement with the Ghanaian government." He went on to say, "I'd want to offer my gratitude to you for your excellent collaboration in project conception and coordination."
