Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has arrested four additional policemen for their participation in the disturbances at Islamic Senior High School on Monday, June 13.

These cops were part of the crew that captured the altercation on video.

The IGP, while announcing the news, stated that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted according to the law.

Four additional senior officials have been arrested by the IGP in connection with the Kumasi Islamic SHS incident.

According to him, the Police Administration will guarantee that the service maintains its professionalism.

"Whatever occurred in terms of the policing element of it, we will investigate it and take all necessary steps to ensure that the proper thing is done at the end of the day."

"We will guarantee that professionalism is developed in a way that does not endanger anyone's life, because as cops, our job is to safeguard lives and property, and if we can't do that, we may have failed in our mission, which is something we don't want to do."

The police have already conceded that a more effective response to the incident at Kumasi Islamic Senior High School might have been used.

DCOP Kwasi Akomeah-Apraku, the acting Ashanti Regional Police Commander, and two other senior officers have been detained as a result of this.

Their interdiction is intended to facilitate a smooth inquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Speaker's special committee on defense and interior, which was entrusted with investigating the situation, will deliver its findings tomorrow, June 21.

What went wrong?

About 25 children were sent to the hospital after police reportedly used tear gas on them as they protested frequent pedestrian collisions in front of the school.

During the demonstration, the victims were alleged to be members of a gang of students that stopped the Abrepo Junction-Barekese route.

The enraged students had gathered on the road in protest, demanding that speed ramps be built on that stretch of road.
