The authorities said the procedure had been excellent as SSNIT registered an impressive uptake of the numbers as the deadline for Ghanaian employees to integrate their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) with the Ghana Card closed Thursday, June 30.
The merger's due date was twice pushed out, from December 31, 2021, to June 30, 2022.
Contributors may no longer be able to access services relating to pensions, SSNIT has previously warned, if they failed to integrate the two cards.
When 900,000 contributors combined as of 2021, the authorities was forced to extend the deadline.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) platform will receive 1.6 million active SSNIT members as part of the integration process, which got under way in June 2021.
"Technically, there is no deadline so to speak because if you show up at SSNIT by the June 30 deadline without the Ghana Card, you can still do business because some people have still not obtained their Ghana cards, but if you are a new member and you are signing on then we will request that you produce your Ghana Card," said Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, Director-General of SSNIT, in an exclusive interview with TV3 at the GNAT Investment Forum in Accra on June 29.
