Ashanti Region members of parliament have urged Suame villagers to apologise to their MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, for abusing him.

Some irate Suame locals heckled the MP on Monday due to the area's inadequate road system.

The MP had come to the district to see how various development initiatives were coming along. Additionally, sachet water and other objects like coconut husk were thrown at his car.

To get him to safety, however, required the police's quick involvement.

The Chairman of the Ashanti Caucus, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, commented on this incident on behalf of the other MPs and denounced the citizens of Suame for their behaviour while pleading with them to apologise to their representative.

We strongly oppose this behaviour. I doubt that Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was provided with resources that he needed to utilise in the area but weren't," he stated.

Additionally, Mr. Anyimadu Antwi asked the citizens to be calm while pleading with the government to repair the roads.

In the meanwhile, the Ashanti Caucus has asked President Akufo-Addo for an urgent meeting to tackle the matter of finishing the region's road projects.

After a protest against Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, local road contractors hastened construction on the Suame roads.

Even though they applaud the government for fixing some roads, Ashanti NPP MPs claim that more work has to be done since their people are under a lot of strain.

We have constituencies like Manso Adobea, Nkwanta, Bantama, Kwadaso..., and Asante Akyem North and South. The roads in Kwabre East are quite terrible. So practically every constituency has some issues about highways, he added.

Relatedly, the Minority MPs have stated that they will not permit the administration to ram through the House a €140 million project to build an interchange and accompanying facilities in Suame in the Ashanti Region.

MPs still do not have enough copies of the loan agreement to read and analyse, said Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minority Spokesperson on Roads and Transport.

"It was placed yesterday, but as of right now, no one has a copy of it. Has it really been laid? We simply hope that no one shows up to inform us that we must study those materials and pass them by the next day, he told the reporters on Wednesday.

He argued that the content of the measure requires more than a week of consideration by Parliament.
