Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has censured a viral video via web-based entertainment showing individuals from the Pirates Guild singing a melody ridiculing CPA official competitor Bola Tinubu during a parade.
In an explanation Monday, Soyinka said he was "honestly horrified" by the melody's verses.
"I think that it is horrendous," he said.
"I have a place with a culture where we don't ridicule actual difficulties or handicaps. A remarkable opposite. The Yoruba religion really assigns a god, Obatala, as the heavenly defender of the beset, no matter what the idea of such torment. This awareness is imbued in us from adolescence and stays with us over the course of life. It works on the guideline of mortal delicacy to which all of humankind stays helpless."
In the video, the individuals from Pyrates, who are praising the gathering's 70th commemoration this year, wearing their conventional red and white clothing and sang a tune about an official up-and-comer whose "hands and feet are shaking, yet he says: ' it's my move.'"
This tune was a reference to Mr. Tinubu's public explosion last June in Abeokuta, where he told his party individuals in Abeokuta that "it's my chance to be president".
Tinubu, a previous Lagos lead representative, later endeavored to withdraw his comments at the gathering, saying he was "boundlessly distorted" by the media.
