Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared his candidacy for the role of party president in the impending national executive election scheduled for December of this year.

One of the NDC's longest-serving general secretaries has stated that he will not run for reelection in the party's national executive elections on December 17, 2022.

Asiedu Nketiah said he is open to being used by the party for any role during an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold on September 21, 2022, but he is thinking about leaving politics.

"Age has a significant impact on everything. Your time and energy will be heavily invested in this position as general secretary, among other things.

"I have given all of these some thought, and I am adamant that I won't run for office again. What I'm trying to communicate is that I won't run for General Secretary again. I have two choices: I can either run for the chairmanship or leave politics," said Mr. Nketiah.

When asked if the rumors that he would be challenging the current chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, were genuine, he declined to confirm them in writing but was quick to add that whoever steps forward to challenge Mr. Ofosu Ampofo won't be an issue.

On December 17, 2022, the NDC will hold its national executive elections.

Aspirants for the national executive seats will need to pick up nomination forms between October 20 and October 21, fill them out within two weeks, and submit them between November 5 and November 6, 2022, according to the notice.

He stated that from November 9 to November 10, 2022, all candidates for national executive positions who successfully submit their nominations will be interviewed.

On September 15, 2022, at the party's national headquarters in Accra, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the general secretary of the organization, made the announcement.

Because Asiedu Nketia is growing older than the legal age, many are still looking for him to quit the party.
