Senyo Hosi, the former CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, is warning officials in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration not to mislead Ghanaians about the debt swap scheme.
When discussing the debt exchange deadline, which is due on January 16th, Mr. Hosi specifically warned Gabby Otchere-Darko, a pillar of the NPP, on JoyNews's The Probe on Sunday.
I see Gabby has released something, he should quit misleading people, he stated. When there is no danger, you talk nevertheless. Consider the individuals who waited in line to cast their votes for you so that you might exercise the authority you already possess. Therefore, exercise caution when speaking to the public.
Senyo Hosi's warning to Mr. Darko was in response to a slew of tweets Mr. Otchere-Darko had earlier on Sunday, in which he claimed that the nation was in a tough situation.
Since of this, the NPP stalwart asked private bondholders in a tweet to negotiate with the government and embrace the debt swap scheme because doing otherwise would be deadly for the nation's economy.
What will have been accomplished if the opposition to it that makes no concessions wins? A default on the national debt might result. What happens to your bonds' value after that? possibly useless Low participation puts our ability to end the economic crisis and suffering in jeopardy, he added.
However, Mr. Hosi is unhappy with the tweets because he claims the leader of the NPP is lying about the grave consequences that will befall Ghanaians if the debt swap scheme is approved.
He continued by saying that in his view, since the IMF does not need it, the government's choice to launch the debt swap scheme was superfluous.
"The Finance Minister stated that 80% compliance is required. You will only receive somewhere between ten and eleven percent from the full mixture. You therefore still have 90% of the total, from which you are unable to extract your remaining 80%. So why do you strike people swiftly and directly? he questioned.
Therefore, Mr. Senyo Hosi urged the current administration to show consideration for the populace.
The purpose of policy space is to serve, not to dominate. And none of those up there should forget it, he said.
