A report claiming that the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has been refused the job has been refuted by the GNPC Board of Directors.
After Dr. K.K. Sarpong left his position in April 2022, Mr. Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah acted in that role until the Public Services Commission appointed and confirmed him as the actual CEO of the state-owned enterprise.
A Modernghana.com article claims that Mr. Danquah failed to demonstrate his ability to the screening committee for the position he intended to hold, which prevented the PSC from endorsing him.
Nevertheless, the Board wishes to clarify explicitly that the stated publication is erroneous, and the general public is urged to dismiss it and treat it with the disdain it deserves, according to a disclaimer published in response to the publication on March 7, 2023.
The Board continued, "The CEO, with the full support of the Board of Directors, is focused on effectively steering GNPC to position itself to maximize the utility of the petroleum resources of the country for its citizens," thereby assuring the public that the appointment of the GNPC CEO was duly approved by the PSC.
