In honour of the 2023 International Women's Day, Ohhema, a La Carte LTD subsidiary, gave more than 1,500 Ohhema! sanitary pads to Kayayos in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) (IWD). Under the banner of "Empowering Kayayos with information on proper feminine hygiene and reproductive health care," the donation and sensitization session was organised.

The objective of Ohhemaonly !'s manufacturer, La Carte LTD, is to assist in educating young women about the value of menstruation hygiene and overall well-being. With the programme, Kayayos girls learned how to practise basic hygiene, including how to use and properly dispose of sanitary napkins.

The project Manager at La Carte Company Limited, Abena Dobmaah Amoanu Arthur, emphasised the significance of spreading knowledge about menstrual hygiene and female welfare.

She highlighted, "Ohhemamission !'s is to make sure that no woman or girl lacks access to basic sanitary products, and [our role] is to encourage young girls to practise proper hygiene.

Our main goal in running the business is to help spread awareness about women's health and menstrual hygiene. We want to help Kayayos girls, who are clearly a larger portion of the underprivileged population and face more challenges in accessing menstruation supplies, as part of our commitments, she said.

Yet according to current data, sanitary pad taxes in Ghana have exceeded 40%, pushing the price of sanitary pads to an excessive level that is difficult for young women and those with lesser incomes to bear.

Consequently, She sent a strong request to the government to do rid of the levy on pads so that regular Ghanaian women could afford them.

"In light of this pressing issue, we are requesting the government to either reduce or eliminate the levy on sanitary pads. If taken into consideration, the cost of sanitary pads will decrease, enabling every young woman in the nation, regardless of financial situation, to purchase the supplies she requires to experience menstruation and, as a consequence, practise menstrual hygiene, she stated.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly's (AMA) Mariam Mensah, Head of the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, praised the partnership with Ohhema! as being the AMA's primary duty of launching initiatives to provide people with basic infrastructure.

the gathering. She emphasised the significance of backing any initiative that aims to assist in achieving these objectives.

"Improving the well-being and healthy lifestyle of women in the Accra metro area is a top goal for the AMA, and working with this programme is one of those things. We are totally in Ohhema's favour and grateful for her kind acts, she stated.

The Kayayos and I had already had several conversations about what they wanted to do to get them off the streets. The AMA is gathering the resources required to pay for and aid these women in accomplishing their goals of pursuing vocational training since the majority of them wish to do so.

The hashtag #EmbraceEquity is this year's International Women's Day theme, which encourages recognising that everyone has unique circumstances and allocating the precise chances and resources required to achieve equality. Ohhema! A step in achieving this objective and enhancing the well-being and healthy lifestyle of women in the Accra metro area is the donation and sensitization campaign.
