The murder of a young military officer in the neighborhood has prompted calls for President Nana Akufo-Addo to denounce the military assault that occurred in Ashaiman. Charles Owusu has attacked those making these calls.
Imoro Sherrif, 22, was reportedly assassinated by individuals who are thought to be Ashaiman locals because of rumours that he was dating a woman who was double dating.
In a planned operation, troops assaulted the neighborhood and thrashed the locals, leaving many of them with varying degrees of injury.
The young soldier was later buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Former President John Dramani Mahama and a few groups have criticized the military and the administration in response to the atrocities.
Before things worsen, the former president has pleaded with the government to step in and break the standoff between Ashaiman's citizens and the military.
"Pray we find peace and harmony in our dear country, as the government and state institutions immediately step in to address this potentially inflammatory development between Ashaiman and the Ghana Armed Forces, including providing commensurate compensation for all persons affected," he wrote on his Facebook post. "I am deeply saddened by the death of one of our soldiers at such a young age in Ashaiman.
Also, there have been a number of news statements criticizing the military operation.
Yet according to Charles Owusu, there is no such thing as a cause without an effect; thus, if they hadn't slain one Ashaiman, the military wouldn't have surrounded the village.
Charles Owusu questioned the opponents of the military assault in Ashaiman during the "Kokrokoo" panel discussion show on Peace FM about what they anticipated would occur following the killing of the soldier in the neighborhood.
"I have a question for the people of Ashaiman. "You are aware of the location of the nearest police station and that there are police officers in this nation, yet you nevertheless killed the young soldier," he inquired.
"If incidents like these don't occur, individuals may fail to learn their lessons." Despite the fact that I oppose killing people and any forms of aggression on people, " he said.
He said that even though it was regrettable that some innocent locals were brutally assaulted by the military, they ought to have understood what would happen if they killed a soldier.
"You are not authorized to take someone's life under any circumstances. Nothing can excuse you killing someone; thus, it doesn't matter." He was tense.
