Former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection Nana Oye Bampoe Addo has advocated for the government to increase funding for the expansion of shelters for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

She said that such action will provide for the urgent requirements of SGBV survivors while also providing chances for their recovery.

She stated that there needed to be additional shelters established in other areas because there was just one in Accra for SGBV victims.

"We must be prepared to battle this canker and defend our young people, women, and girls," she urged.

During a ceremony to kick off the transfer of a non-governmental organization (NGO), which fights against sexual exploitation, Nana Bampoe Addo made the suggestion.

Launch of O.U.R.

O.U.R., a global non-profit organization, supports thousands of survivors in 40 countries while working to stop sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

It accomplishes this by offering victim support services, training and support for law enforcement organizations, and the rescue of women and children from sexual trafficking and exploitation.

The NGO will have increased resources and capacities as a result of ARC's transformation into O.U.R. Ghana, enabling it to scale up its efforts to prevent sex trafficking and sexual exploitation and adequately help victims.

The ARC has spent the last seven years assisting in the search for those responsible for sexual assault and child sex trafficking throughout the nation.

victims of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking seeking justice.

ARC and O.U.R. united to become O.U.R. Ghana last year.

In addition, O.U.R. Ghana utilized the occasion to provide 10 computers worth GH 90,000 to the Ghana Police Service's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit to aid in the battle against sex and human trafficking.

The former minister believed that the merger was a positive step that would significantly aid in the battle against SGBV.

O.U.R.'s country manager, Fred Akweter, stated that the merger will give the organization the chance to increase its ability to meet the needs of abuse and sex trafficking survivors.
