IF GIVEN THE CHANCE, I'LL IMPROVE THE ECONOMY ? MAHAMA

If Ghanaians elect him president in the general election of 2024, former president John Dramani Mahama has vowed to revive the economy of the nation.

He urged the delegates to vote for him heavily in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress because he was adamant that he would win the election for flagbearer to lead the party (NDC).

The party has set May 13 as the date for the selection of its presidential and parliamentary candidates for the general election of 2024.

Tour

As part of his campaign visit in the Bono and Bono East regions, Mr. Mahama spoke to party members at Sampa in the Bono Region.

He said that the nation required an experienced leader to fix the economy and claimed to be more experienced than the other candidates for the flagbeareship.

Professor Joshua Alabi, the campaign coordinator, Julius Debrah, the former chief of staff, as well as other former NDC appointees, former lawmakers, and regional, constituency, and branch leaders of the party, are travelling with Mr. Mahama.

As Mr. Mahama and his crew arrived in the constituencies they toured, they were greeted with a thunderous welcome from throngs of party fans.

Renew the economy

Former President Mahama predicted that the incoming NDC administration would revitalise Ghana's economy and provide relief for its citizens.

He outlined how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had brought about financial ruin, economic suffering, and the destruction of the strong economy that the NDC had given the country in 2016.

In order to save the country from this economic hardship, Mr. Mahama urged all Ghanaians to support the NDC with their votes. "The NPP government has driven the country's economy into a ditch," he said.

He asserted that the Russian-Ukrainian War and the COVID-19 pandemic were not to blame for the country's economic problems, but rather inept leadership and careless borrowing.

Thus, Mr. Mahama encouraged the administration to put an end to the finger-pointing and be bold enough to admit to Ghanaians that it had mismanaged the economy.

Governmental size

In order to salvage the already-damaged economy, he encouraged the government to scale back on its spending.

Mr. Mahama stated that the size of the incoming NDC government would be reduced to 60, adding that this was not merely a campaign pledge.

He thanked the chiefs and residents of the area for turning out in record numbers to support the party in its bid for an additional five seats and boost his support in the 2020 election.

Mr. Mahama praised the party's good accomplishment in keeping its one seat out of 12 while stealing five more from the NPP.

He expressed optimism that the party would gain further seats in the area and nationwide in the coming elections.
