Nana Dwemoh Benneh, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Universal Merchant Bank, has urged recent graduates to use the information and knowledge resources freely available to them to pursue their aspirations in life.
He claimed that graduates had worked hard to finish their education and had earned the abilities to realize their aspirations; thus, "Now let it stand you in good favor as you establish the professional world you wish."
This was expressed by Nana Benneh last Thursday in Accra at the University of Ghana's March 2023 Congregation.
The undergraduate programs at the College of Education were the target audience for the event. It was part of a weeklong ceremony to graduate 11,711 students from each of the four colleges, including the School of Graduate Studies, the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Education, and the College of Humanities.
These included 8,331 graduates with bachelor's degrees, 462 with diplomas, and 2,918 graduate students, including 102 Ph.D. candidates and 2,816 Masters candidates.
Entrepreneurship
"For most of us when we were graduating in 1996, our objective was to acquire a decent-paying job in a good firm or, alternatively, to continue further studies connected to the degree we received," Nana Benneh said to the graduates, noting that the chances their world offered them were admirable.
"Yet, you are approaching the age of the entrepreneur driven by business models, built not just on the information you have learned at the university but also on abilities based on technology," the author said.
Artificial intelligence, robotics, programming, and software development are currently essential and can all be learned online from anywhere, according to him.
According to Nana Benneh, as the world became more digital, the barriers to entry for obtaining the necessary skills and starting businesses gradually decreased to the point where everyone's ambitions could now almost be pursued on an even playing field, regardless of their educational or technical background.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Amfo, stated in a speech read on her behalf that a number of initiatives had been implemented to enhance the experience of students while attending the university, including the classroom modernization project, hot-spot comfort zones, and one student, one laptop, among others.
She said that in order to improve access and modernize the institution's teaching and learning facilities, the university launched a project to upgrade its classrooms.
She stated that the project was anticipated to be completed in stages using funds produced internally and with assistance from business organizations and private citizens.
