Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has pleaded with those in elected positions to utilise their influence for the benefit of society rather than to exploit it.

He claimed that because the positions they held were temporary, they need to leave behind monuments that would help people remember them forever.

During the opening of a courthouse complex for the residents of Boamang in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Osei-Mensah made the call last Friday.

Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, the Chief Justice (CJ), will be recognised for being one of the few CJs to leave legacy projects during their term, he said.

In the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region, there is a courthouse complex for the residents of Boamang.

He said that, in addition to bringing justice to every citizen's doorstep by opening courthouses around the nation, "he (CJ) would also be recognised for the Court of Appeal Residential Complex in Kumasi."

He said that thanks to the CJ's efforts, practically every district in the nation could now boast at least one district court that included a magistrate's residence.

He praised the Chief Justice for his ambitious desire to leave the nation with a lasting legacy before his term was through.

Objective

For his part, Judge Yeboah expressed gratitude to the DACF Administrator for providing the funding necessary to build more than 100 courthouses and judges' bungalows for the Judiciary Service.

He noted that this duty has been impeded by the lack of infrastructure and living amenities for judges, but he said that the Constitution required the Judiciary to be the only entity responsible for administering justice in the nation.

He said that having a courthouse complex will bring justice to the people's doorstep.

Appreciation

Judge Yeboah was appreciative of the Boamang residents, especially the chiefs, for giving a significant donation of their land to build the courthouse complex.

He said that the agency sometimes had trouble securing property in prime places to build courthouses.

Maintenance

In order to maintain the facility for future usage, he pleaded with the Judicial Service workers to take excellent care of it. He added: "This is an investment for the present and future generations which should not be nibbled away with negligence.

Moreover, he urged the court employees to work diligently since it is the judiciary's responsibility to guarantee that justice is carried out in a friendly environment.
