Kwabena Bempong, a structural and highway engineer, has been the leader of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) for a two-year tenure.
Last Thursday, in Sekondi-Takoradi, the GhIE's annual general meeting and engineering conference came to a close with his investiture.
In his place, Mr. Bempong replaced Rev. Prof. Charles Anum Adams.
Vision
Mr. Bempong expressed his joy at being chosen as the 53rd President of the GhIE in his inauguration speech.
In describing his vision, he stated, "I wish to lead the institution to advance our 2007 strategic plan."
Moreover, he added, he will continue to support the institution's membership expansion plan and prioritize the needs and welfare of members. In line with the Constitution and Engineering Council Law, Act 819, Mr. Bempong further pledged to try to unify all engineering practitioners, particularly technologists, technicians, and artisans.
He recognized the contributions that each member of the industry has made to the engineering value chain.
Moreover, he promised to bolster the GhIE secretariat to better address membership-related concerns, including registration, testing, training, professional development, and welfare.
Confidence
In his remarks during the event, Rev. Prof. Adams noted that after a wonderful and delightful two years, it was time to hand over the institution's administration to a new president.
He expressed faith in Mr. Bempong's ability to take the GhIE to new heights.
"I have no doubt that the GhIE will advance considerably farther.
All of us are willing to assist and collaborate with him in that direction, "said Rev. Prof. Adams.
Commendation
Mr. Bempong was the engineer who oversaw the four-tier Pokuase Interchange, a project that had won multiple awards in Ghana, West Africa, Africa, and the rest of the globe, according to a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta.
"I'm glad that the GhIE chose Ing. Kwabena Bempong as their 53rd President," he said, "unable to contain his happiness."
He said that Mr. Bempong strikes him as the consummate engineer, showing great professionalism and commitment to his work.
