About 1,100 bakers and their personnel in Accra and Kumasi received free medical screenings thanks to Olam Agri's collaboration with local regulatory bodies and medical experts in Ghana.
The program "My Healthy Baker" included this effort, which was created to enhance the health of bakers and guarantee food safety in the communities they serve.
A total of 15 health screening campaigns have been undertaken under the "Get Screened, Know Your Health Status" campaign, which is a component of the "My Healthy Baker" plan introduced in 2022, in the Accra neighborhoods of Dansoman, Kaneshie, Alajo, Tema, and certain sites in Kumasi.
Medical experts, such as physicians, nurses, and laboratory technicians, carry out these procedures.
In addition to undergoing a health examination, participants get hygiene instruction to guarantee that the highest levels of food safety are upheld at their local bakeries.
The municipal authorities provide food handling certifications to bakers who pass the health screening tests, attesting to their eligibility to handle food.
Initiative
According to Baibhav Biswas, head of Olam Agri's grain business in Ghana, "this program is part of our commitment to enhance health and safety in our communities."
He continued by noting that frequent health examinations and instruction in food safety procedures may assist in ensuring the bakers' excellent health, which is a crucial component of food safety.
The "Bakers' Conference," a stakeholder engagement initiative designed to establish constant communication and direct engagement with bakers across the country on issues relating to their businesses and to create a platform for collaborative problem-solving, is one of the programs that Olam Agri has started over the years.
The company also organizes a number of training courses for bakers that emphasize cost-effective ways to use their goods for various baking tasks.
The company, which the late President John Evans Atta Mills commissioned in 2012, imports wheat grains from all over the world to create several kinds of wheat flour for various baking applications, both for the domestic market and for export to nearby francophone nations.
The company has made investments in high-quality infrastructure and qualified human resources with a strong focus on food safety and a continued commitment to quality to assure the manufacture of goods that can satisfy regional needs and global standards.
The firm produces several major flour brands, some of which are First Choice, Royal Gold, and Vital.
