In the Jubilee House, the Anglican Church of Ghana performed a special church service yesterday in honour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who will turn 79 on Thursday, March 29, 2023.

The ceremony, which was brief but spectacular, was presided over by the Most Reverend Dr Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Internal Province of Ghana of the Anglican Church.

There was a communion ceremony for the President and his Anglican family, and just a small number of people showed there. There was nothing to rehydrate.

Several Anglican priests, including the Right Rev. Dr. Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, and the previous Anglican Bishop of Accra and former Primate, helped the Most Rev. Dr. Ben-Smith.

The President was surprised with a birthday cake and flower arrangement in the lobby just after the ceremony.

To help him cut the cake, the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, were joined by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and their children.

The President, who had used the foyer on his way to the conference room only to return after about 20 minutes to such a surprise, was taken aback by the cake, the bouquet, as well as a singing group performing some of his favourite songs, particularly James Varrick Armaah's well-known choral song, "Oye."

Speaking of 'Adonai's' goodness during his homily, Rev. Dr. Ben-Smith advised President Akufo-Addo to continue to rely on God in all of his decisions.\

He said that the Anglican Church's Archbishops and Bishops were celebrating the President and his family's good fortune in life, health, and virtue.

The President's life, according to Rev. Dr. Ben-Smith, was a clear illustration of the Bible's assertion that the Lord's steadfast love endured forever and that His mercies were new every morning. He also stated that the purpose of the service was to give thanks to God for the blessings of life and favour as well as for all the good things He had done.

Rev. Ben-Smith cited Psalm 103 of the Holy Bible in declaring that all people should do the same, just as David exhorted his soul to praise the Lord by speaking well of the Lord in a spirit of appreciation and thankfulness.

He observed that in commemorating the day, they agreed with David that the President was protected by the God of Jacob and that Adonai, the Lord of Host, was with him.

Recognition

God is the one God without a rival, therefore we should "give ourselves to him wholeheartedly," according to Rev. Ben-Smith, who also urged the President to continue looking up to him.

In addition to saying that "Your Excellency, He would continue to remember you," he stated that God was a God of remembering who did not forget those who relied on him.

Message

Once the cake was cut, Dr. Bawumia issued the following statement: "Today we are celebrating the 79th birthday of my boss, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. It's incredible
