Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, the country's Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has announced a partnership between the ministry and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to leverage and promote tourism and significantly boost the GDP of the nation (GDP).
According to him, with the correct policies and interventions, tourism may be used to its full potential to boost the nation's foreign exchange earnings and further contribute to its sustainable growth.
"Ghana has the potential for tourism, as has been observed in other nations. In terms of GDP growth and job creation, among other factors, tourism will surpass the mining, cocoa, oil, and gas industries, and we'll make it happen. I want to compel all GTA employees and tourist sector participants to gain essential knowledge to help us tackle future problems," he stated.
Dr. Awal gave a speech yesterday at the beginning of the GTA's 50th anniversary festivities.
GTA at 50
Representatives from the major tourist sector players, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, hotels, caterers, vehicle rental agencies, and the Ghana Tourism Federation, gathered for the anniversary launch.
In December of this year, a 50th Jubilee Musical Performance will mark the culmination of the GTA's milestone.
Paragliding, a float, a staff durbar, a health walk and screening, a conference on tourism and an awards and dinner night are among the many events planned for the celebration.

Together with a wealth of perfect tourist sites, Dr. Awal claimed that Ghana was also endowed with a vibrant culture.
He said that his organisation, which is tasked with creating policies for the industry, was collaborating with the GTA to provide the necessary frameworks and foster an environment that would promote the growth of tourism.
He reiterated that the ministry and GTA will keep focusing on training and skill development to assist enhance the sector's services.
To raise the standard, we're planning to train roughly 6,000 people who work in the tourist industry. When you have quality, visitors won't just stop by and go; instead, they'll tell others to visit as well.
Hence, he added, "more money will flow into the economy."
a substantial rise
Akwasi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GTA, stated in his speech that the industry had experienced tremendous development over the previous year, with a rise in both local and foreign arrivals.
With a surge of 47%, we have noticed considerable increases in foreign arrivals. Ghana performed at 81 percent of pre-pandemic levels, compared to 65 percent for other African nations, the official added.
