Vodafone Ghana is inviting all industry participants to work together to promote the adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) to create the nation's digital future in honour of the sector's 50th anniversary.
To link devices and satisfy customers' urgent demands, Ebenezer Siebu, Head of Network at Vodafone Ghana, emphasised the need of pushing the IoT agenda. Mr Siebu pointed out that Vodafone Ghana has already taken the lead on this project with the help of goods and services like the V-Tracker solution, which enables businesses to keep an eye on drivers' compliance, assets, and gadgets.
Mr Siebu highlighted Vodafone Ghana's internal usage of V-Tracker to protect the safety of its personnel on the road in an interview with Onua TV and FM. He described how the business uses monitoring devices on using its cars to track speed and plan trips for its employees, getting notifications when drivers are going too fast or getting too tired. In addition to instilling discipline in drivers, the tracking technology also pushes them to drive carefully.
Mr Siebu noted that to install tracking systems for their cars, Vodafone worked in conjunction with important stakeholders at several businesses and government organisations. He expressed confidence that the IoT will significantly improve people's lives and support a healthy economy in Ghana if more organisations adopt it.
The first mobile phone call, which transformed how people interact, was commemorated on April 3 for 50 years. This year's event honours 50 years of development in the mobile telecommunications sector, making it possible for allowing individuals to remain linked wherever they may be. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the industry's enormous changes as well as the possibility of mobile technology developments in the future.
In related developments, the Vehicle-Tracker (V-Tracker) Road Safety initiative has been launched by a partnership between Vodafone Ghana and Metro Mass Transport Limited (MMT). With the use of Vodafone's IoT technology, MMT can lessen the frequency of incidents affecting its buses thanks to this effort.
Under Vodafone's Hero Projects, which aims to link people, places, and things via technology, the V-Tracker project is a trailblazing endeavour. Vodafone Ghana has fitted its V-Tracker technology with 10 MMT buses as part of the experimental programme. The integration of this technology, which consists of a camera, sensors, and software, into a vehicle tracking system reporting system enables MMT to keep track of driver performance and take appropriate action as required.
The technology monitors speed, abrupt turns, hard braking, and other signs of unsafe driving, immediately transmitting these signals to a monitoring centre at MMT's operational base.
