Opanin Yaw Baah, one of the six candidates in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Kumawu by-election scheduled for Sunday, April 23, 2023, has dropped out of the race.
However, he has pleaded with the delegates to support his niece, Obaapa Ama Serwaa, in a landslide.
In addition to being a former MP for Kumawu, Opanin Yaw Baah was one of the six candidates who passed the screening process last Sunday and were qualified to run this Sunday.
Determinants of withdrawal
"Having considered my political status and pedigree within the large family, I have come to the conclusion that the last atom of my "political breath" has been extinguished," Opanin Yaw Baah said in a letter to the party's by-election committee chairman.
should be available to the National Front rather than being on Kumawu's outskirts.
As far as our "Breaking the 8" motto is concerned, I view myself as a major participant.
"I think staying outdoors would help our party become more united in the district, which will benefit my beloved Kumawu," he remarked.
Endorsement
"I have never made it a point to go on an endorsement binge."
However, in light of Kumawu's unique circumstances and the need for long-lasting peace, I implore all delegates to cast their votes in favor of my niece, "Obaatanpa Serwaah," whose mother formerly presided over the Sekyere East District Assembly from 2003 to 2007, prior to Kumawu's separation from Effiduase/Asokore.
She is also seen as not being a part of either of Kumawu's two influential blocks, he said.
A lawyer named Opanin Yaw Baah remarked, "Concluding, I take this occasion to convey my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Kumawu Traditional Council, led by the unflappable Omanhene, Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, for their immense assistance."
Recall
Between April 11 and April 14, 2023, the NPP opened and closed nominations for the Kumawu Constituency By-Election.
After the procedure, eight people submitted their nominations to run in the party's primary in the district; however, six of them passed the screening process while the other two were rejected due to dual citizenship difficulties.
The Kumawu constituency vice-chairman of the NPP, Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the current director of health promotion at Ghana Health Services (GHS), Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, a former member of parliament for Kumawu, Obaapa Ama Serwaa, Ernest Anim, and Owusu Bempah, were among those who breezed through the screening procedure.
Dr. Philip Bannor and Edward Osei were the two contenders who lost.
