ACCRA ROADS IN TERRIBLE CONDITION - NO MAINTENANCE AT WHATSOEVER

In many areas of Accra, the roads are in terrible condition due to a lack of upkeep on the road surfaces. The uneven surfaces, which have deep potholes and some that are covered with trash, are dangerous and uncomfortable for both drivers and pedestrians.

As the roads went unmaintained for a while, tiny dents turned into big deformities, adding to Accra's traffic congestion, especially during rush hours.

Some engineers who specialize in highway safety and environmentalists claim that traffic congestion worsens the condition of the roads and lowers air quality.

most harmed

Teshie, Ablekuma, Anyaa, Gbawe, Oyarifa, Teiman, Abokobi, and the vicinity of the Kasoa tollbooth and Kasoa Millennium City are among the most impacted regions.

Danfa, Otinibi, the Fan Milk roundabout near the New Times Corporation in the North Industrial Area, and a few spots in Osu are also impacted.

The deadliest of them are near the Christ TempleGaskia Road crossroads on the Ring Road West's Abossey Okai-Korle Bu segment, popularly referred to as the Mortuary Road.

Teshie's major roads are riddled with potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces, and the neighborhood has come to be associated with bad road conditions.

Because of the condition of the roads, drivers are forced to slow down and use their best maneuvering abilities to get to safety.

The issue is made worse by the sheer volume of cars using the roadways since Teshie's population has increased dramatically over the past few years, along with the number of vehicles in the neighborhood.

There are several very hazardous potholes that have grown at the roundabout at the Fan Milk facility in the North Industrial Area and are impossible for cars to avoid.

These potholes have contributed to collisions and tire damage.

According to Paul Nkansah, a cab driver who runs between Circle and North Kaneshie, the heavy-duty trucks working nearby are to blame for the roundabout's potholes.

Because the potholes were made by the large vehicles of the companies in this area, the government won't be able to correct them if we wait. He said, "These potholes didn't form today; they have been present for a while."

In many affluent neighborhoods of the city where the roads are entirely paved, particularly the stretch connecting the Nyaneba Estates junction to Osu from the major road from J.B. Dankwa Circle, there are similar deep potholes.

empty assurances

Due to the terrible condition of the roads, it is difficult for cars to access the region at Djaman in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.

On other areas of the road, erosion has eaten through the edges and left behind deep pits.

Prior to the 2020 election, neighbors claimed that piles of sand and stones were dumped on the road leading to the Djanman Taxi Station, but constructionwhich had started with drains on that stretchhad since stopped.

"These politicians are taking us for a ride." They worked hard to get our support, but when they had what they wanted, they abandoned us. The road is worsened by rain. Pedestrians are forced to walk in the mud while motorists struggle to go through it.
