Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged churches to pressure elected officials to put their attention on finding answers to the nation's challenges rather than engaging in divisive and propagandist politics.
He said that rather than trying to hide their actions in the shadows, politicians should let politics shed light on what they did.
At the 46th session of the General Council Meetings of the Church of Pentecost, which began yesterday at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Dr. Bawumia made this statement.
So let's focus on light, let's focus on data, let's avoid insults and propaganda, and let's focus on light when a politician tries to talk.
"Let us concentrate on resolving issues that this nation faces on a daily basis," he remarked.
He applauded the church for the "bold initiative" and supported an upcoming conference between the Church of Pentecost and national legislators that was slated to occur from June 14 to 16, 2023.
Taxis with an electronic system
The Vice President took advantage of the opportunity to indicate that commercial taxi drivers, particularly those in the Greater Accra Region, will soon be connected to a digital system so they can function similarly to other electronic system-based taxis.
"We will be able to integrate all of our cabs into an Uber-like network, at least in Greater Accra at first, Likewise to Uber and other electronic taxis, you will be able to call for their services. "Those are the kinds of things we as politicians should be focusing on," he added, adding that it is a practical answer to a real problem.
The vice president also said that by the end of this year, the public and private transit systems will switch to a "tap and go" system that could be used with oyster cards.
Conference
Delegates from the Church of Pentecost are in attendance at the three-day conference, which has the topic "Repositioning the local church for maximum impact in the nations" and is being attended by people from all across the country and beyond.
The gathering serves as the church's highest governing body and would, as Witness the election of a General Secretary, Chairman, and four other executive members as a part of its deliberations to manage the church's affairs in Ghana for the ensuing five years.
Dr. Bawumia emphasised the necessity of strong leadership if the nation was to progress.
With the Lord at the core of everything, he said, "we can have the greatest impact on our country with the right leadership."
According to Dr. Bawumia, the Church of Pentecost gave the nation the necessary proof that, with the right leadership, Ghana had what it took to run its affairs and make the nation the envy of many.
Commendation
While praising the church's leadership for their passion and commitment Dr. Bawumia claimed that the church's congregation had been blessed with excellent leaders throughout the years, who contributed to both the church and national progress.
Specifically during the COVID-19 epidemic, he listed a variety of Church of Pentecost missions and activities, claiming that the church provided major help to the country.
Dr. Bawumia said that the church's accomplishments as an indigenous institution without outside assistance were instructive.
He also requested the Church of Pentecost and other Christian leaders to pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation and the whole globe.
