In order to guarantee justice to all parties, Kakra Essamuah, the chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elections Commission, said concerns expressed regarding the accuracy of the party's voter data ahead of Saturday's flag-bearer and parliamentary primaries were being addressed.
He continued by saying that a news conference has been planned for Thursday to officially inform the public and calm any potential fears.
The party's Elections Commission has planned a meeting with the representatives of the various competitors as of the time this article was submitted yesterday in order to agree on the procedures and rectify any apparent irregularities.
It came after Team Kwabena Duffuor expressed concerns about the validity of the party's electoral procedure ahead of the primary elections on Saturday.
On Saturday, in the flagbearership, Dr. Duffuor will compete against former president John Dramani Mahama and former chief executive officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Kojo Bonsu.
Following the complaints, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor's campaign team has asked that the pertinent parties, including significant players within the party, participate in a roundtable discussion to swiftly resolve the problems.
Statement
According to a statement from the campaign team, "the team emphasizes the importance of resolving these matters to ensure a transparent and fair election and to avoid any potential pitfalls that may have severe consequences."
Concerns have been voiced by the campaign team over what it sees as irregularities in the voter list issued by the NDC Electoral Commission for the primary elections for president and parliament scheduled for next Saturday.
The group demanded that the problem be resolved in order to guarantee an impartial and open election process.
The concerns were first raised in a letter dated April 17, 2023, when the campaign team requested access to the voter register, which serves as the basis for determining the eligibility of voters in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries, according to a statement signed and released by a member of Dr. Duffuor's campaign team, Kofi B. Kukubor.
Analysis
The statement said that in response to these worries, a meeting was convened at the NDC party headquarters on May 2, 2023, during which Dr. Kwabena Duffuor's team was given certain information pertaining to the voter's register.
However, the campaign team found what they considered to be substantial irregularities within the register after performing a preliminary review of the given data.
