On May 18, 2023, a group of clergymen from the Western Region will demonstrate against LGBTQ rights in Ghana by taking to the streets of Sekondi and Takoradi.

The Western Region Network of Ministers, Churches, and Council's Executive Secretary, Rt. Rev. Dr. Bright Daniel Karikari, claims that the purpose of the rally is to show support for the Ghanaian Family Bill before parliament and the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights.

"Our protest is also in support of the Ghanaian Family Bill and Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights, both of which are now before the legislature. In favor of the legislation, we are protesting. It is in favor of the legislation. He stated that in order for the government to recognize the Christian community and even the Muslim community as being in favor of the law, it may be passed.

He highlighted on Tuesday's JoyFM Newsnight that the choice to take to the streets was made to convey their disgust against the act, not the individuals engaged in the practice.

"We are not protesting against members of the LGBTQ+ community; rather, we are protesting what we see as a perverse act." "It may interest you to know that some of these individuals may be attending our church."

"We are not against them, but we are the church, and we are saying that such acts do not sit well with our belief system, our faith, and our teachings," he said in response to the host, Evans Mensah.

It's anticipated that a news conference, a crusade, a prayer, and a demonstration would kick off the two- to three-day event.

The contentious Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 was recommended for passage by the House by the Parliament's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee on March 30.

The majority of Ghanaians, according to the Committee, support the law.

The Committee informed the House that it had petitioned the Attorney-General for its advice while acknowledging that there were "significant human rights concerns" with the measure.

The Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, is an 18-page document that was signed by the chair of the committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi. It requests that Parliament "pass into law the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, subject to the amendments proffered by the Committee."
