WHY INTER MILAN DIDN'T HAVE A SHIRT SPONSOR AGAINST AC MILAN

Inter Milan didn't have a shirt sponsor for their big Champions League clash against AC Milan, and here's why.

Inter beat archrivals AC Milan 2-0 in their semi-final first leg tie on Tuesday, as Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan got on the scoresheet.

Simone Inzaghi's side will take a healthy advantage into next Tuesday's second leg as they look to win the competition for the first time since 2010.

One of the other main takeaways from Milan vs. Inter was the away team's lack of sponsorship, as fans online were left confused.

One Twitter user wrote: "No sponsor on Inter kits tonight?" While another added, "Inter have no front sponsor?"

The Nerazzurri had their famous blue and black stripes on show, without a sponsor. That's because Inter have not yet received any payments this season from shirt sponsor DigitalBits, despite signing a deal worth £75 million in September 2021.

As a result, Inter dropped the blockchain company's logo from their shirts amid payment issues.

Fellow Serie A club AS Roma have also suspended their agreement with DigitalBits, as they have removed their logo from their shirts, too.

Inter played without a shirt sponsor for the first time against Lazio last month.

The company released a statement a day before the club's league fixture, responding to the suspension of their partnership.

"The Digitalbits Foundation has undertaken a proactive process for the redefinition of partnerships that will involve the Digitalbits brand in the future, in line with the objectives of economic sustainability and the use of blockchain technology," they said.

"The sponsorship contracts regarding the exposure of the Digitalbits brand with the football teams Roma and Inter were concluded with Zytara Labs.

"The Digital Bits Foundation represents the community and ecosystem aimed at promoting blockchain technology and its use."

Inter will likely be sponsorless again when they host Milan in the return leg.

Rio Ferdinand criticises Fikayo Tomori for being 'DOMINATED' and not 'putting a marker down'

Rio Ferdinand has criticised Fikayo Tomori for his performance in the first leg of AC Milan's Champions League semi-final first leg against rivals Inter Milan.

Inter won 2-0 in what was theoretically their away tie, and flew out of the blocks against a shell-shocked Milan team at the San Siro.

Simone Inzaghi's side looked like they could score every time they went forward, and Milan were lucky to only trail 2-0 in what was a more-than-disappointing first half.

Milan were criticised by BT Sport pundits throughout the evening, despite the team missing key men Rafael Leao and then Ismael Bennacer through injury.

Ferdinand in particular didn't hold back when asked by Steven Gerrard on the performance of Tomori, who has received rave reviews for his performances in Italy so far, but struggled on the night.

'I said before the game that in the big showcase games you gave got to perform if you want to be propelled into being a top player, and unfortunately today it wasn't one of those for him,' he said.

'I think one thing I would say is I don't think he won enough individual duels, I don't think he really impacted the centre forwards with any aggressiveness or challenges to really put a marker down at any point. They dominated.'

Ferdinand went on to reference Inter's repeated will to drive forward with the ball and the space their opponents often gave them during the game.

The hosts struggled defensively throughout, and Inter took advantage to take the 2-0 lead into the second leg next week.

'One thing they did have was really good balls into them,' Ferdinand added. 'They were allowed to get their heads up from either defensive positions or midfield and they were allowed to run with the ball freely and get good balls into the forwards.

'If you're playing good balls into the right side of the forwards to benefit them, players of Martinez and Dzeko's standards, they're going to make it difficult for any defender to be able to get near them and they do that today.

'It was a little bit of that, but also you've got to assert yourself in these games. You know what it's like Steven, you've got to put your marker down early in these games and not at any point really did he do that.'
