Michael Okyere Baafi, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) MP for New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, has provided three elementary schools in the district with 150 tablets and other information and communications technology (ICT) supplies.
A computer, a projector, a charging station, and other electrical devices make up the equipment.
50 tablets were distributed to each of the three beneficiary schools: Nana Kwaku Boateng Basic 'B', Sarkodee M/A Basic 'A', and Nana Oware Agyapong M/A Basic School.

Last Tuesday, at a brief ceremony to hand out the tablets, Mr. Baafi said the goal of the gesture was to inspire the students to study ICT, particularly the practical side.
He said it was now required because of how important ICT was to the learning process.

In order to encourage students to develop an interest in ICT, Mr. Baafi stated that it was also important to improve ICT education in the district.
He said that identical ICT equipment will soon be provided to all of the remaining elementary schools in the constituency.
"My goal is to reach every elementary school in the constituency to provide the students with a real understanding of ICT.
The MP said, "What I'm doing now will encourage and facilitate ICT learning by students in the constituency's elementary schools so that they can develop their knowledge and skills in ICT when they are eventually admitted to senior high schools."
All students writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) had to have both theoretical and practical knowledge of ICT, according to Alhaji Mustapha Haruna, the New Juaben South Municipal Education Director, so having access to ICT equipment would put the students on par with those using it.
Elizabeth Owusu-Domfeh, the headteacher of Sarkodee M/A Basic School, who accepted the ICT equipment on behalf of her institution, said it had arrived at the ideal moment.
According to Nana Kwasi Adinkra Kosopre, the Mawerehene of Nyamekrom, computer literacy has become the standard in the modern, rapidly changing world.
He was thus pleased that the MP had given additional pieces of this equipment to nearby schools.
Ebenezer Djabatey, a form 3 student at Sarkodee M/A Basic School, thanked the MP for his kindness and said it will help the school's ICT programs to educate and study more effectively.
