With only three days until the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries, it is still unknown whether the High Court will approve the holding of the elections in response to an interlocutory injunction issued by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the three flag bearer candidates, prohibiting the party from holding the elections until it produces a complete and accurate photo album register.

However, Abraham Amaliba, the party's head of legal affairs, told party members that the legal directorate would make sure that the polls went off as planned.

He informed the Daily Graphic that the party would employ every available legal strategy to guarantee that the elections would take place on Saturday.

According to him, the legal team was supposed to appear in court yesterday to present a document that would allow the court to consider the request to allow the elections to take place.

Writ

In the writ, Dr. Duffuor requested that the court "deliver" the whole register to his campaign and the campaigns of John Dramani Mahama and Kojo Bonsu, the other two candidates for president, at least five weeks before the election.

According to the writ submitted last Monday by Dr. Duffuor's attorneys, Opoku Amponsah & Co., a sizable portion of the eligible voters do not have images shown in the photo album register, making it difficult to carry out any meaningful verification on those impacted.

The lawsuit continued, saying that to his extreme amazement, verification revealed that there were 220 constituencies on the hard drive delivered to his agents rather than the purported 228 specified by the party.

The picture book record was deemed erroneous and unfit for free, fair, and credible elections, according to the initial examination of the alleged 220 constituencies on the hard drive.

The writ claimed that duplicate entries for certain delegates had been created, each with a distinct name and party identification number.

It further stated that out of the 220 constituencies, a special list of 74,799 individuals had been compiled to vote, and that special list could not be changed.

validated due to the little information in the photo album concerning them.

The complaint contended that 3910 qualified voters in the 220 constituencies had been denied the right to vote for no valid reason.

All of these factors, combined with the fact that a sizable portion of eligible voters do not have photos shown in the picture album, make it hard to carry out any meaningful verification on them.

Additional details

It should be emphasized that since it is a move on notice, it would be considered on Monday, by which time the NDC would have finished the procedure if the elections go forward.
