In 2018, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer advised Manchester United to purchase Erling Haaland for £4 million, but the club declined.
Around six months before to taking over as United's manager in December 2018, according to Solskjaer, he informed United about Haaland.
Despite Solskjaer being fully aware of Haaland's great talent while the two were coworkers at Molde, the striker chose to join Red Bull Salzburg and later Borussia Dortmund before moving for £51.2 million to Manchester City last year.
Haaland, who is currently 22 years old, is unquestionably one of the best players in the world of soccer, but he could have played for United rather than City.
'I contacted United around six months before I took over and informed them that I'd got this striker that we had, but they didn't listen,' Solskjaer reportedly stated, according to The Sun.
Haaland was not signed, even though I requested £4 million for him.
Before leaving United in November 2021, Solskjaer assumed the position of manager permanently after being initially hired as the team's interim leader.
Haaland played 50 games for Molde during his stay there, making each of those appearances while Solskjaer was the manager. In 2017, he moved from Bryne to the club.
Haaland has had an incredible debut season playing football in England, scoring 51 goals in 47 games across all competitions.
When he signed with City, Solskjaer wrote to Haaland.
According to Haaland, who spoke to the Manchester Evening News, "When I signed with City he congratulated me and wrote to me "Good luck on coming to the wrong side of Manchester."
"We occasionally speak. He had a significant influence on my career while I was in Molde, as you are aware. He's a decent guy.
With 82% of the vote, the Norway international was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association.
With 35 goals, Haaland set a new record for the most goals scored by a player in a single Premier League campaign.
Haaland is flourishing at City, whilst United continue to struggle up front and are searching for a new striker this summer.
Haaland commented on his FWA victory by saying, "Winning the Football Writers' Award in my first season playing English football is an honor.
"I work hard every day to be the best version of myself, so it means a lot to me to be recognized in this way."
"I have enjoyed my time at City so far; my teammates are amazing and give me opportunities to score goals," he said.
"I want to thank all of them because without them, I would not have been able to receive this award."
I also owe so much to Pep and the City organization that supports the team, he continued.
"Since I started working here, everyone has been so nice to me, and I have never worked with such top-notch professionals."
"I want to thank everyone who supported me by voting. It's a true honor to have received this recognition.
I am now concentrated on making sure I finish the season strongly and aiding City in winning trophies.
