CHELSEA'S OWNERS NOW ACKNOWLEDGE DISMISSAL THOMAS TUCHEL COULD HAVE BEEN MISTAKEN.

The Chelsea owners have admitted that firing Thomas Tuchel last September was a mistake, according to reports.

Tuchel, 49, was a hugely popular manager among players and fans, but he was fired just a few games into Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's ownership reign.

It came after a lengthy summer rebuild in which Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, and Wesley Fofana all arrived for hefty transfer prices.

Graham Potter was hired almost shortly after, but he was fired last month after only seven months in office.
Though the partnership with Tuchel was never going to last, it is now agreed that it would have been wiser to keep the German coach for a season for a more orderly transition.
However, as new proprietors, they wanted to begin a new era as soon as possible.

After firing Tuchel and leaving relations on both sides wounded, there is a sense that they overcompensated by selecting Potter because he was so skilled at working the executives and owners.

Chelsea's owners are thought to still like Potter and believe he can show himself at a big club, but the team's form had deteriorated to the point where they felt they needed to intervene and change course.

The sanctions had a greater devastating effect on the Roman Abramovich regime than is widely recognized; they directly contributed to the departure of Antonio Rudiger and left the club playing catch-up in several areas.

Though the new owners were chastised for dismissing Abramovich's transfer negotiator Marina Granovskaia, it became clear that keeping an executive so closely linked to the sanctioned Abramovich was politically impossible given the crisis in Ukraine.

Petr Cech could have stayed, but he made it plain that he wanted to leave when Granovskaia did.

Due to family obligations, an early proposal to have former Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards in charge for the summer fell through, leaving them initially without expertise.

It is claimed that Boehly never wanted to fill the role of temporary sporting director and is now relieved to have stood aside to allow Stewart and Winstanley to lead.
The club is on the approach of naming former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as manager in the summer, with the Argentine well aware of the task ahead of him.

Pochettino will bring along assistant Jesus Perez as well as his usual coaching staff, but he will not officially take over until the end of the season.

Pochettino and the club's sports directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are meeting to discuss squad enhancements, with a striker, midfielder, and goalkeeper to be signed in the summer, despite the necessity to sell excess players to balance the books.

Chelsea is presently 11th in the Premier League with 43 points. It would be disastrous if they lost another game this season. Chelsea is presently 11th in the Premier League with 43 points. If they lose another game this season, they will have equaled the most losses in a league season since the 1997-98 season.

Lampard lamented his team's passiveness on the ball after his side's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

'The second half was ours, clearly, in terms of possession, but we weren't lively enough in the top part of the ball in the first half,' he remarked.

'Everything we discussed at the start of the game was too sluggish. Unfortunately, it appears to be inherent here at the moment, where we play a lot of passes but not to break lines.
