At the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national headquarters in Accra, voting is now taking place.

For former party members, the Council of Elders, the NDC Professional Forum, and diaspora appointees, a separate polling place has been set up at the party's headquarters.

At this voting location, 167 delegates are participating.

More than 31 people had cast ballots as of lunchtime.  At the center, voting began at nine a.m.

Only the presidential primary is intended for the use of the polling place at the party's headquarters.

Large numbers of police officers are stationed at the party headquarters, which is also the location of the presidential primary collation center, to provide security for the event.

Both outside and within the party's grounds, there are police officers in uniform posted.

For the 2024 general elections, the party is holding primaries around the nation to choose its presidential and legislative candidates.

Two contenders are vying for the presidential nomination: former president John Dramani Mahama and Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

At the last minute, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the presidential contenders, resigned, alleging anomalies in the party registration.

The 47 seats for the parliamentary elections will not also have voting.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party's chairman, said in a news conference on Friday, May 12, 2023, that the 47 candidates who submitted applications to represent the party had no opposition and had thus been chosen after passing their background checks.

An NDC veteran, Mr. Alex Segbefia, stated in a statement following voting at the party's headquarters that while voting was somewhat delayed in certain locations due to difficulties delivering electoral materials, voting was proceeding without any problems in all of the polling regions.

He said that the party had taken steps to resolve all election-related issues before January 2024.

He went on to say that the party has a sophisticated structure in place to handle issues of reconciliation following elections and that by January 2024, the party would have a successful team in place.

Former health minister, Mr. Segbefia, declared that the party was prepared for the elections in 2024.
