FERDINAND SNUBS CARRAGHER, CAUSING THEM TO LAUGH OFF THEIR PLAYFUL BEEF

After comically blanking Jamie Carragher by the side of the Etihad pitch, Rio Ferdinand asked, "Why the red face?" to continue their amusing argument.

Since Carragher called the United icon a "clown" for his opposing opinions on a penalty call, the two have been jabbing one other.

And just down the touchline from where he was performing punditry work with BT Sport, Ferdinand was seen addressing Micah Richards, Thierry Henry, and Jamie Carragher of CBS Sports ahead of Manchester City's decisive 4-0 victory against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Following his embrace of Richards, Ferdinand can be seen purposefully avoiding Carragher, who was left looking happy. In contrast, Henry greeted the former defender.

But after a few uncomfortable moments, Ferdinand and Carragher shook hands, shared a laugh, and then gave each other an embrace.

Last week, during Inter Milan's 2-0 victory against rival AC Milan, the two got into an argument over a penalty decision. After consulting with VAR, the conclusion that Lautaro Martinez was down in the box was reversed.

Carragher wasn't persuaded that it should have been a penalty kick, but Ferdinand was.

Anyone who is watching the replay and seeing what the VAR does and still thinks there is a penalty, according to Carragher, "must be a clown," he stated. He also singled out Rio for expressing that viewpoint after being prodded by other experts.

Ferdinand addressed Carragher's remarks via his FIVE platform, and the former Manchester United and England defender stated they will be further explored when the two met. The 45-year-old, according to him, was also "a friend of the show."

'Every time I see him it's all love guy,' Ferdinand told FIVE, expressing his confusion at the occurrence. I'm a kind man; we hug, shake hands, and smile a little.

"I don't know why he entered with such hostility; it's a hostile energy, and I don't know why." He appeared on our show, we cross paths, and everything is well. When we were with England, he used to carry my boots as a means of showing me his affection.

The only reason I can think of is that it was [Premier League] Hall of Fame week, and because me and him, we get along well. I really don't get it man, we text and chat occasionally. I only have positive energy to give him.

I'm saying he messages me constantly because it drives me crazy. He always texts me, wears my boots, and we were teammates in England teams. He has always loved me.

I just want him to tell me where that energy comes from since I have no idea where it has been coming from. Is this energy real or fake? I'll ask him when I see him because I need to know.

Following the broadcast of the FIVE video, Carragher appeared to attempt to diffuse the situation by tweeting Ferdinand a meme portraying Richard Keys that said, "It was just banter."

Last October, Carragher and Ferdinand had a Twitter spat over Cristiano Ronaldo's participation at Manchester United under manager Erik ten Hag.
