In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City has announced their new home jersey for the 2023–24 season.
The striking navy blue uniform used during the club's inaugural season at the venue served as the inspiration for the new uniform, which was created by sportswear behemoth Puma.
After 80 years at Maine Road, City relocated to the Etihad in August 2003, ushering in an era that would be replete with trophies and glitz.
Puma has paid thanks by considering the architecture of the ground when designing their most recent model. In fact, the four enormous turrets that are positioned surrounding the site and form the subdued tonal stripes were the idea for the front graphic of the jersey.
The kit is completed with a white V-neck that is an exact replica of the one worn for the Etihad's inaugural shirt, the 2003-04 home strip. The postcode of the stadium is also featured on the back of the collar, symbolizing the two-decade milestone once more.
Meanwhile, state-of-the-art technology has been employed to give City's star-studded team the best possible performance and comfort on the field.
The kit's four-way stretch design and ULTRAWEAVE fabric engineering reduce weight and friction while allowing the players to move freely.
The Replica version sold in stores allows the wearer to stay dry and comfortable because it is constructed with 100% recycled polyester with dryCELL technology.
With the exception of the trim, all jerseys are entirely constructed from recycled materials.
Puma and City invited a number of fans and club representatives to appear with the men's and women's first-team players as part of the unveiling.
Shaun Wright-Phillips, a club ambassador who was a member of the team that competed at the Etihad Stadium in its first season, expects the new uniform will revive fond memories.
He stated, "The Etihad Stadium plays a crucial part in Manchester City's history." It's wonderful that Puma drew inspiration from it for this year's home kit because players and supporters will cherish the moments shared there.
I'm tremendously happy to have played in that inaugural season at the Etihad and donned the Manchester City jersey. As it does for me, I hope this year's garment evokes many fond memories for our supporters.
