At Agortor-Kope in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia officially broke ground for construction to start on a 2,000-acre, 9,000-house Integrated Community and Empowerment Centre for Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs).

The Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry (CEM) created the CEM Ability Village through the Church's Ability Village Charity to help and empower people with impairments through skill training and specialised healthcare to encourage their full involvement in society.

Phase One of the project, which will be located on 500 acres, will be started right away as the charity keeps looking for money and resources to complete the full project quickly.

Vice President Bawumia, a fervent supporter of the rights of people with disabilities, praised the church's leadership for coming up with and launching such a significant project, saying it reflects the church's commitment to the duty to serve mankind.

Dr. Bawumia praised Rev. Steve Mensah and the leadership of the Church and the Charity, saying, "For many years, I have followed with keen interest your efforts in providing assistive devices, medical care, and other essential items for this vulnerable group across the country by organising the "Day of Help" for persons with disabilities, which is commendable".

In order to fully integrate into our communities, people with disabilities must overcome a multitude of social, psychological, physical, educational, transportation, and communication challenges every day. According to Dr. Bawumia, these hurdles have detrimental effects such as social isolation, problems with physical and mental health, stigmatisation, prejudice, low self-esteem, and problems with money.

"As a result, people with disabilities are more likely than people without impairments to live in extreme poverty. Unfortunately, the acts and inactions of our society continue to put obstacles in the way of their integration into our communities.

"It is now more important than ever to address these problems head-on by taking decisive steps to remove all of the stereotypes and obstacles preventing people with disabilities from fully participating in our society. CEM Ability Village demonstrates that we do not have to wait on the government to take care of everything. We are all accountable for taking care of our kin who have disabilities.

"We must all work together to eliminate all barriers that stand in the way of our brothers and sisters. Let's use our compassion and pool our resources to help those with disabilities escape this pit of hopelessness.

"We have a lot to do as a Government, and we are committed to addressing these challenges," he emphasised.

Dr. Bawumia, whose care and humanitarian works with people with disabilities are widely known and who serves as the patron of the Ghana Lepers' Aid Committee, vowed his dedication to the project's success and asked everyone else to do the same.

"I must say that I am really passionate about this effort to serve people with disabilities, and I will provide all the assistance required to make the CEM Ability Village a reality. The government will contribute to the completion of this project as well. It is our civic and moral duty to support the CEM Ability Village. Let's all step up to the plate because everyone's life counts and we shouldn't leave anyone behind.

This historic event serves as a call to action for Ghana to support people with disabilities. I will urge everyone to donate generously to this great endeavour, including corporate Ghana, the donor community, development partners, associations and clubs, religious organisations, and individual donors. Donations of building supplies and equipment as well as technical support from development partners for skill development He emphasised that visitors were welcome to the hospital's amenities.

The chiefs of the region were congratulated by the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, "for releasing such a large tract of land for such a laudable project" and promised the Ministry's "absolute support" to guarantee its prompt completion.
