Manchester United winger Antony is returning to the UK to speak to police to resolve assault allegations against him, which he denies. The Brazilian winger is currently leaving United to fight assault charges from his ex-girlfriend Gabriella Cavallini.
Greater Manchester Police and Sao Paolo Police investigated, and Antony denied the allegations. The former Ajax star has returned to his homeland but is expected to return to English shores, where he will meet police in person.
According to The Sun, Antony was at Sao Paulo airport, taking a flight to Spain and then Manchester, and was photographed with a suitcase, a backpack on his back, and a bag of toiletries. Antony said in a statement: “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I respond to the allegations against me.
“It was a mutual decision to avoid causing inconvenience to my teammates and any unnecessary controversy for the club. “I would like to reiterate that I am innocent of the charges against which I have been charged and will fully cooperate with the police to help them find the truth.
I can't wait to get back to competing as soon as possible. Manchester United confirmed earlier this month that Antony would not represent the club amid the ongoing allegations. A statement from the Red Devils read: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations against Antony.
“Players not participating in international matches must return to training on Monday. However, Antony agreed that he would delay his return until further notice in response to the allegations. “As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse.
We recognize the importance of protecting all those involved in this situation and the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse. Cavallin alleged that Antony headbutted and punched him in his hotel room on January 14, the day after the Premier League match against Manchester City.
She said she had a cut on her head, and her breast implants were damaged. Antony has made 48 appearances for Manchester United since joining from Dutch giants Ajax for £88 million last summer. He scored 8 goals and provided 3 assists during this period.
He has been absent in the Red Devils' last 4 matches. Erik ten Hag's side has launched their Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns and faces Premier League clashes with Brighton and Burnley.
