Manuel Ugarte has explained his reasons for joining Manchester United this summer from PSG.

Ugarte, 23, finally completed his move to the Red Devils on deadline day from the French giants for a fee rising to £51million.

He was paraded on the pitch to United fans at Old Trafford ahead of their 3-0 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday and has since joined up with Uruguay for the international break.

And, the 23-year-old - who was a target all summer for the Red Devils - revealed why he made the move to England and opened up on his excitement for the challenge ahead.

'First and foremost, it is history, because we all know what a massive club United is - one of the best teams in the world,' Ugarte told the club's website.

'I also spoke a lot with Facu Pellistri and he told me all about everything. The atmosphere that's generated, the matchday atmosphere that builds up at Old Trafford is incredible.

'So yes, I'm really excited. I'd love to experience United's legendary stadium as a player and feel the presence of the supporters.'

Pellistri plays alongside Ugarte for Uruguay, although the winger recently left United after four years to join Greek giants Panathinaikos having struggled for regular gametime at Old Trafford.

However, Ugarte didn't only seek out the advice of his fellow countryman.

'I've also spoken with one or two players - with Bruno (Fernandez) and Licha (Lisandro Martinez) - and I have chatted quite a lot,' he added.

'So yes, I'm really thrilled and more than anything eager and excited, while I obviously realise that it's a great responsibility and I'm prepared for that.

'I'm really excited. I've never seen anything like it before, these United fans, because, since the news first came out, they've been sending me messages.'

The midfielder is set to be in action against Paraguay and Venezuela over the coming week for Uruguay, before he could potentially make his United debut against Southampton on September 14.

Erik ten Hag's side are 14th in the Premier League after losing two of their first three games so far this season, with the Dutchman coming under pressure following the heavy defeat by the Reds.
